About
So you want to know about who you might be sitting with, so here is a bit about me, written plainly.
I did not grow up imagining I would become a therapist. My path has been a mix of learning the hard way, getting things wrong, finding myself again and discovering what really matters. I learned early on how to listen, how to read people and how to steady myself when things felt chaotic. For years I was a classic people pleaser, trying to keep everyone else at ease. These days I am still warm and open but with far clearer boundaries, and that balance is something I bring into the therapy room.
Before training as a counsellor, I lived a few different lives. I was part of the rave scene in the eighties and nineties and I saw up close how people use connection, music, drugs and alcohol to escape or belong. I have lived in a few different countries too, which gave me an understanding of difference, culture and what it feels like to be the outsider at times. I have known grief, illness and the kind of challenges that arrive when life does not go the way you planned. I also have a child with learning difficulties, which has taught me patience, depth and a very real understanding of what it means to care, advocate and hold hope through the harder moments.
None of this defines me, but it does shape how I sit with people. I do not treat therapy as an abstract skill. I see it as two humans meeting with honesty and care. I am steady, present and not afraid to gently challenge when it helps. You will not get a blank screen with me. You will get someone real. Someone who listens, reflects and works with you at your pace.
I follow a pluralistic approach, which means we find what works best for you rather than sticking rigidly to one method. Clients often say they feel comfortable, understood and able to be themselves with me. That means a lot, because therapy should feel safe enough for you to explore the things you usually avoid.
Outside the therapy room, I am a dad, a husband of over thirty years and someone who loves boxing training, music, the sea and living life with as much humour and humanity as possible.
If you choose to work with me, you will find a grounded, collaborative and non judgemental space where you can talk openly and begin to make sense of what is happening in your life.
